This photo combo shows, clockwise from upper left: a customer receiving a facial massage at an Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa in New York; Revlon lipstick displayed at a Brooklyn pharmacy in New York; the LinkedIn logo on a screen at the post where it trades on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, and the Microsoft Visitor Center in Redmond, Wash. There’s a $2.5 trillion risk to stock prices that’s lurking in financial statements. That is the figure for goodwill, an accounting term that represents the premium that companies pay when buying each other. The price Microsoft is offering is 50 percent more than what investors had judged LinkedIn shares were worth before their deal. Revlon’s $419 million purchase of Elizabeth Arden announced a few days after the Microsoft news is 50 percent more than the target company shares, too. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan, Richard Drew, Ted S. By William Schomberg LONDON (Reuters) - Finance minister George Osborne on Friday gave up his centerpiece policy of turning Britain's budget deficit into a surplus by 2020, faced with potential economic stress following the country's shock decision to leave the European Union. "The government must provide fiscal credibility, so we will continue to be tough on the deficit but we must be realistic about achieving a surplus by the end of this decade," Osborne said in a speech on Friday.

Britain's Justice Secretary, Michael Gove, delivers his speech after announcing his bid to become Conservative Party leader, in LondonBy Kylie MacLellan and Michael Holden LONDON (Reuters) - Justice Secretary Michael Gove pitched on Friday to be the prime minister to take Britain out of the EU, a day after he destroyed the chances of another frontrunner in what some colleagues called an act of treachery. Gove's decision on Thursday to throw his hat in the ring to replace David Cameron, who is standing down after Britons voted to leave the European Union last week, upturned British politics after he had previously said he would back Boris Johnson. Five candidates are now hoping to replace Cameron, with interior minister Theresa May the favorite with bookmakers.
