Nigeria has uncovered a spy cell run by militant Islamist group Boko Haram at the international airport in the capital Abuja apparently aimed at selecting targets for attack, the country's national security agency said. In a statement late on Friday, the Department of State Services (DSS) said it discovered the ring on Monday and was working with aviation authorities to pre-empt any attack. President Muhammadu Buhari has made halting Boko Haram's six-year-old insurgency a priority, but a Reuters tally shows the jihadist group has killed more than 700 people in Nigeria in bomb attacks and shootings since he came to office on May 29.

Police hunting for the perpetrators of Thailand's deadliest bombing arrested a suspect on Saturday they said fit the description of a man identified on security cameras as leaving a rucksack at the site of the Aug. 17 blast in Bangkok. Police raided an apartment used by the man in northern Bangkok on Saturday and discovered possible bomb-making materials, national police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri said. "They also found a lot of materials which can be used to make bombs," Prawut said. The bomb tore through the crowded Erawan Shrine in Bangkok's commercial heart on Aug. 17, killing 20 people, most of them tourists, and wounding scores more.
