A self-professed Islamic State group supporter in the US state of Florida was charged with attempting to set off a backpack bomb, the FBI said. Harlem Suarez, 23, from Key West, Florida drew authorities' attention because of his extremist Facebook posts, the FBI said Tuesday. A user of the social site contacted the police after Suarez allegedly tried to recruit them to support the Islamic State group, according to the government's criminal complaint.

The F-16 jets hit six targets in Iraq and were scrambled from an air base in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakir, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the operations. Turkey began bombing PKK camps in northern Iraq last Friday in what government officials have said was a response to a series of killings of police officers and soldiers blamed on the Kurdish militant group.
