According to the department's first estimate for the second quarter, growth was fueled mainly be an increase in consumer spending, which accounts for about 70 percent of US economic activity. Consumer spending jumped 2.9 percent in the second quarter, picking up from a 1.8 percent increase in the first.

Tensing was scheduled to appear in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas at 10 a.m. (1400 GMT) The incident was the latest in a series of fatal police confrontations across the United States that have raised questions about police use of force against minorities.
