The United Nations mediator on Syria and the Russian foreign minister began talks in Moscow on Tuesday with Staffan de Mistura, the U.N. envoy, saying he wanted to revive a faltering cessation of hostilities on the ground. De Mistura, ahead of his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said: "I am looking forward now to having a serious discussion with one aspect which is clearly in my mind at the moment: we need to make sure that the cessation of hostilities is brought back on track." "... We need some clear feeling that the Syrians can believe (in) that the cessation of hostilities is back on track." Lavrov said he expected to have a fruitful conversation, saying that Russia and the United States were working hard to resolve the Syria crisis.

Rockets fired by insurgents hit a hospital in a government-held part of Aleppo city on Tuesday, causing dozens of casualties, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday. The Observatory did not say how many people had been killed in the strike on the al-Dabit hospital. The Syrian army said in a statement the attack was part of a widespread assault by insurgent groups in Aleppo on Tuesday and that it was responding "to the sources of fire".
