By Gabriela Baczynska BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Top European Union official Donald Tusk denounced Russian air strikes in Syria as helping the "murderous" government of President Bashar al-Assad and triggering fresh waves of refugees fleeing toward Europe. The war in Syria has made millions flee their homes and is one of the main drivers of Europe's worst migration crisis in decades. "Russia's actions in Syria are making an already very bad situation even worse," Tusk told in brief comments on greeting Georgia's new prime minister, Georgy Kvirikashvili, arriving in Brussels.
Turkey is admitting Syrian refugees in a "controlled fashion" and has so far let in 10,000 of the roughly 50,000 people who have reached its borders in the latest influx, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday. Speaking at a joint news conference with his Hungarian counterpart during a visit to Budapest, Cavusoglu said the current flood of refugees to Turkey could reach 1 million people if the Russian and Syrian military campaign against the opposition continues. Turkey is already hosting about 2.5 million refugees from Syria.
