Pro-Russian separatists ride on a tank in Donetsk, eastern UkraineBy Natalia Zinets and Aleksandar Vasovic KIEV/DONETSK, Ukraine (Reuters) - Fighting raged in eastern Ukraine on Sunday as Russian-backed separatists used artillery fire to try to dislodge government forces from a strategic rail hub after peace talks collapsed. "Fighting continues across all sections of the frontline," Kiev military spokesman Volodymyr Polyovy said in a briefing, adding that some 13 soldiers had been killed in the past 24 hours. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which took part in the talks in Minsk, Belarus, along with envoys from Ukraine and Russia, said rebel delegates had not been ready to discuss key points of a peace plan. The terms of that 12-point protocol have been repeatedly violated but Kiev and foreign governments see it as the only viable roadmap to end the nine-month-long conflict in which more than 5,000 people have been killed.

Members of Al-Kaseasbeh, the tribe of Jordanian pilot, Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh, who is held by the Islamic State group militants, carry posters with his picture and Arabic that reads "we are all Muath," at the captured pilot's tribal gathering divan, in his home town of Karak, Jordan, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015. An online video released Saturday night purported to show an Islamic State group militant behead Japanese journalist Kenji Goto, ending days of negotiations by diplomats to save the man. Maximiano Vazquez-Guevara, left, his wife Ashley Bowen, and their 6-year-old daughter, Nevaeh Vazquez, pose for a photo in their home Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, in the northeast Denver suburb of Commerce City, Colo. The presidential executive order that fast-tracked immigration hearings for last summer's flood of Central American migrants may have had unintended consequences in canceling hearings for non-detained immigrants with longstanding cases such as Vazquez-Guevara. Vazquez-Guevarra, 34, recently won his appeal to become a legal permanent resident. But his case still needs to go in front of an immigration judge one last time, and it has been pulled from the docket. Thousands of immigrants seeking legalization through the U.S. court system have had their hearings canceled and are being told by the government that it may be 2019 or later before their futures are resolved.
