A fire at a massive military ammunition depot on Tuesday killed at least 17 people and injured 19 more in central India, officials said. The blaze broke out around 01:30 am (2100 GMT Monday) at the depot in Pulgaon, near the city of Nagpur in the western state of Maharashtra, with television footage showing flames lighting up the night sky. Nineteen are injured but are out of danger," Smita Patil, superintendent of Wardha district police, told AFP by phone from the scene.
North Korea on Tuesday appeared to have tried and failed with a fresh ballistic missile launch in violation of existing UN resolutions, South Korea's defence ministry said. The ministry declined to speculate on the missile type, but local media cited military sources as saying it was a powerful, medium-range Musudan missile that has already undergone three failed launches this year. UN resolutions ban North Korea from any use of ballistic missile technology, although it regularly fires short-range missiles into the sea off its east coast.
