Australian Al-Jazeera journalist Peter Greste listens to the verdict in Cairo on June 23, 2014 inside the defendants cage during his trial for allegedly supporting the Muslim BrotherhoodEgypt freed and deported Australian journalist Peter Greste on Sunday after more than 400 days in detention, following global condemnation of his jailing on charges of backing the Muslim Brotherhood. Greste, an award-winning correspondent for Al-Jazeera English, departed on a flight to Larnaca in Cyprus soon after his release from Cairo's Tora prison, interior ministry and airport officials told AFP. The reporter was detained along with two colleagues, Canadian-Egyptian Mohamed Fahmy and an Egyptian producer, Baher Mohamed, in December 2013 and charged with aiding the blacklisted Brotherhood movement. Qatar-based Al-Jazeera welcomed Cairo's decision and expressed hope its other two journalists would soon also be released.

By Ingrid Melander PARIS (Reuters) - Greece's new government on Sunday offered to produce proposals within a month for a revised debt agreement with its skeptical international partners, insisting it would not take on any more loan tranches in the meantime. The proposal came after talks in Paris where French Finance Minister Michel Sapin offered his Greek counterpart Yanis Varoufakis backing to craft a deal possibly including some alleviation of its debt load but no outright cancellation. Varoufakis, in Paris as part of a diplomatic offensive by Greece's leftist leaders to win changes to terms on debt as they roll back on austerity measures, said Athens had allowed itself to become addicted to debt, now at 175 percent of output. Setting out a possible timetable to renegotiate its 240 billion euro ($270 billion) bailout, Varoufakis said that if Athens was given till the end of the month to prepare proposals, it could aim to hammer out a realistic agreement with partners six weeks later.
