Facebook on Thursday said it is ready to begin test flights of a high-altitude drone designed to provide Internet access to remote locations of the world. Using the solar-powered drone could mean "quickly bringing connectivity to an area that needs it," he said at a presentation at Facebook's California headquarters. "Our goal is to accelerate the development of a new set of technologies that can drastically change the economics of deploying Internet infrastructure," Facebook vice president of global engineering and infrastructure Jay Parikh said in a blog post.
An American teenager has been charged with murder nearly two years after her newborn son was found dead in her bag at a New York lingerie store, prosecutors said Thursday. Tiona Rodriguez, 18 and from Brooklyn, pleaded not guilty to murder in the second degree and was remanded into custody. Police told AFP at the time that two 17-year-old girls were pulled aside on suspicion of stuffing lacy underwear into their bags without paying at Victoria's Secret in Herald Square.
