In the biggest speech of her quarter century in politics, Clinton on Thursday accepted the Democratic presidential nomination for the Nov. 8 election with a promise to make the United States a country that worked for everyone. "He's taken the Republican Party a long way, from 'Morning in America' to 'Midnight in America,'" Clinton said.

Manuel Valls, under fire for perceived security lapses around the attacks, also admitted a "failure" in the fact that one of the jihadists who stormed a church and killed a priest on Tuesday had been released with an electronic tag pending trial. Both Valls and Cazeneuve have faced calls to resign after the second jihadist attack in less than a fortnight raised questions over France's vigilance and preparedness.

Rosberg clocked a fastest lap of one minute and 15.517 seconds to outpace defending three-time champion Hamilton by 0.326 seconds, the Briton never looking likely to match his team-mate’s speed. Four-time champion and fellow-German Sebastian Vettel was third-fastest for Ferrari, 1.150 seconds off the pace, ahead of his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen.
