Protesters chain themselves to an entry point prior at the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in WashingtonBy Ian Simpson and Scott Malone WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Liberal activists protesting U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration scuffled with police in Washington on Friday and temporarily blocked some of the Republican real estate developer's supporters streaming in for the ceremony. About 900,000 people were expected to pack the grassy National Mall facing the Capitol, where Trump will be sworn in, as well as the parade route along Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House and other parts of central Washington. One of the signs carried by the group read "Make Racists Afraid Again." The Disrupt J20 protest organizer Alli McCracken, 28, of Washington, said the group was voicing its displeasure over Trump's controversial comments about women, illegal immigrants and Muslims.

El Chapo (Shorty), once one of the world's most wanted drug lords, was set to appear at 2 p.m. EST (1900 GMT) in federal court in Brooklyn to be arraigned on 17 criminal counts, a day after his surprise extradition from Mexico. The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison, Robert Capers, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said at a news conference.
