Members of the FBI Evidence Response Team investigate the crime scene outside of the Curtis Culwell Center after a shooting occurred the day before, on May 4, 2015 in Garland, TexasThe Islamic State group on Tuesday claimed responsibility for an attempt to storm an event in Texas showcasing caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, as details emerged about the two slain gunmen. "Two of the soldiers of the caliphate executed an attack on an art exhibit in Garland, Texas, and this exhibit was portraying negative pictures of the Prophet Mohammed," the jihadist group said. "We tell America that what is coming will be even bigger and more bitter, and that you will see the soldiers of the Islamic State do terrible things," the group said. Police said the two men drove up to the conference center Sunday in Garland, where the anti-Muslim, right-wing American Freedom Defense Initiative was organizing a controversial Mohammed cartoon contest, and opened fire with assault rifles, hitting a security guard in the ankle.

A man holding a Greek national flag and a placard walks in Constitution Square in AthensATHENS/BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Greece blew hot and cold with its euro zone partners on Tuesday as it struggled to avert a potentially catastrophic funding crunch this month, when it must make a big debt repayment to the IMF as cash reserves dry up. Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said after talks in Paris and Brussels that he expected euro zone finance ministers to acknowledge next Monday progress toward a cash-for-reform deal, opening the way to easing Athens' liquidity crisis. "We are certainly going to have a fruitful discussion on May 11 that will confirm the great progress that has been achieved and will be yet another move, yet another step, in the direction of a final agreement," he told reporters after meeting European Economics Commissioner Pierre Moscovici. Earlier, Moscovici had warned the euro zone would not even begin to discuss longer-term funding and ways to reduce Greece's debt until Athens had agreed a "consistent, detailed, complete" economic reform program with its creditors.

(AP Photo/Andrew Harnik, Pool)MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Two decades after dead American soldiers were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu, John Kerry on Tuesday became the first secretary of state to set foot in Somalia, a symbolic visit to show support for the African nation's fledgling government and the United States' readiness to move past a dark chapter in its history.
