Sri Lanka's batsman Kumar Sangakkara (C) survives a run-out chance as England's Eoin Morgan (L) and James Anderson react, during their Cricket World Cup Pool A match in Wellington, on March 1, 2015Sri Lanka inflicted England's third crushing defeat by a Test nation at this World Cup with a nine-wicket win on Sunday that left their opponents' quarter-final hopes hanging by a thread as Pakistan were left looking to their bowlers to beat Zimbabwe. Chasing 310 to win, Sri Lanka cruised to a seemingly stiff target with 16 balls to spare as Lahiru Thirimanne, who ended the match with a six off Chris Woakes to be 139 not out, and Kumar Sangakkara (117 not out) shared an unbroken partnership of 212 for the second wicket in Wellington. Yet Sangakkara insisted he still planned to retire from white-ball cricket after the World Cup as he was "getting old".

Roger Federer shakes hand with Novak Djokovic after their final match at the ATP Championships tennis tournament in DubaiBy Matt Smith DUBAI (Reuters) - Roger Federer's enduring class shone through again as the Swiss maestro beat world number one Novak Djokovic 6-3 7-5 to win the Dubai Championships for a seventh time on Saturday. The 33-year-old's serve is the least praised of his repertoire but it was his awesome delivery that blunted Djokovic's baseline game, taking his career ace haul past the 9,000 barrier with 12 more, several at vital moments. The match, the 37th in their rivalry which Federer now leads 20-17, proved to be a tale of chances taken and chances missed -- Federer converting his two break points with clinical efficiency, while Djokovic failed on all seven of his. I definitely won the big points tonight." Djokovic had two set points to level the match in the second set but both times Federer was rescued by his serve.
