The left-handed Hamels struck out seven batters in six innings before the bullpen took over for the first combined no-hitter in the Major League Baseball team's history. Philadelphia ace Hamels had five walks and a high pitch count, forcing manager Ryne Sandberg to remove him for a pinch-hitter in the top of the seventh inning. Jake Diekman, Ken Giles and Jonathan Papelbon preserved the no-hitter, each throwing a solid inning out of the bullpen.
