Kanaan, the 2013 Indy 500 winner, circled the 2.5-mile (4km) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval at 226.280mph (364.162kph) in 39.7738 seconds on the 28th of his 42 practice laps. "We had a pretty good session," Kanaan said.

After three days of talks, Mourinho agreed a three-year contract on a bumper salary reportedly worth more than $20 million (19.5 million euros) a year. "Manchester United is one of these clubs where you need really to be prepared for it because it is what I used to call a giant club," Mourinho said.

"It's not broken, but if I continue to play it will be 100 percent broken in a few days," said an emotional Nadal, the fourth seeded winner of 14 majors.
