Sri Lanka's batsman Kumar Sangakkara (C) survives a run-out chance as England's Eoin Morgan (L) and James Anderson react, during their Cricket World Cup Pool A match in Wellington, on March 1, 2015Sri Lanka inflicted England's third crushing defeat by a Test nation at this World Cup with a nine-wicket win on Sunday that left their opponents' quarter-final hopes hanging by a thread as Pakistan looked to revive their bid for a place in the last eight. Chasing 310 for victory, Sri Lanka cruised to a seemingly stiff target with 16 balls to spare as Lahiru Thirimanne, who ended the match with a six off Chris Woakes to be 139 not out, and Kumar Sangakkara (117 not out) shared an unbroken partnership of 212 for the second wicket in Wellington. Yet Sangakkara insisted he still planned to retire from white-ball cricket after the World Cup as he was "getting old". England opened this World Cup with a 111-run loss to Australia before suffering an even more humiliating eight-wicket defeat by New Zealand, the other tournament co-hosts.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro delivers a speech during a ceremony commemorating the 26th anniversary of El Caracazo, a deadly popular revolt, in Caracas on February 28, 2015President Nicolas Maduro plans to limit the US diplomatic presence in Venezuela and require American tourists to obtain visas, in a sign of growing tensions between the two countries. Maduro has intensified in recent months his allegations of coup and assassination plans -- often purportedly backed by the United States -- as he faces a deep economic crisis and a sharp drop in popularity. "In order to protect our country... I have decided to implement a system of compulsory visas for all Americans entering Venezuela," he told supporters. Under the new measures, Venezuela will start charging tourists the same visa fees the United States asks of Venezuelans, though it was unclear when the plan would be implemented.
