At a tense summit that finished late Tuesday, the 27 remaining EU members agreed to give Britain some breathing space, accepting that it needs time to absorb the shock of the Brexit vote before triggering Article 50 that will begin the formal divorce proceedings.

The managing director of Encocam, a company that makes crash-test dummies, had planned to hire 120 people between now and 2018 to work at the company's design and production base near Cambridge. The firm, which currently employs 172 people, immediately began enquiring about grants to open a design center in Spain and is considering Portugal, Ireland, Germany and Poland too.

Sally Pearson was one of Australia's leading medal hopefuls for the Rio Olympics after winning the 100 metres hurdles gold in LondonAustralian Olympic hurdles champion Sally Pearson withdrew from the Rio games Wednesday, saying she was devastated she had injured her hamstring during training and could not compete. Pearson, Australia's top athlete who won 100 metres hurdles gold at London in 2012, told the Nine Network she did not want to risk a career-ending injury by going to Brazil. In confirming earlier reports that she would miss the games, Pearson said the new injury had come "out of the blue" and at a time when she was training well.
