Lee Jong-eui, 48, shows a photo of his nephew Nam Hyun-chul,17, one of missing passengers aboard the ferry Sewol sank off South Korea, during an interview at a gymnasium in Jindo, South Korea Saturday, April 19, 2014. Relatives of about 270 people missing have grown increasingly exasperated and distrusting of South Korean authorities, in part because of confusion, early missteps and perceived foot-dragging. For days, they have dealt with shock, fear and bewilderment. They have briefly been buoyed by new ideas for finding survivors, changes in death counts and the number of missing, even rumors of contact with trapped relatives, only to be let down later. (AP Photo/Gillian Wong)JINDO, South Korea (AP) — The informal briefing by a South Korean coast guard rescuer started calmly enough. He stood on a stage in front of relatives of those missing from a sunken ferry, explaining how divers trying to find their loved ones are hampered by poor visibility and can venture only so deep.

Northern Ireland police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a prominent former member of a hardline republican splinter group. Tommy Crossan, a leading opponent of a 1998 peace deal in the British province who had been a senior figure in the Continuity IRA, was shot on Friday afternoon in west Belfast and died at the scene. Northern Ireland has been largely peaceful since the "Good Friday" agreement largely ended more than three decades of sectarian violence but there have been sporadic outbreaks of violence, particularly in the last 18 months. More than 3,600 people died in sectarian strife between mainly Catholic Irish nationalists, seeking union with Ireland, and predominantly Protestant unionists who want to remain part of the United Kingdom.

This handout image taken on April 14, 2014 shows US Navy operators aboard ADF Ocean Shield moving the Bluefin-21 into position for deployment in the search of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370The effort to find missing flight MH370 is at a "very critical juncture", Malaysia's transport minister said Saturday as authorities mull whether to reassess a challenging search of the Indian Ocean seabed that has so far found nothing. "The search for today and tomorrow is at a very critical juncture. So I appeal for everybody around the world to pray and pray hard that we find something to work on," Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said. Malaysia was already in discussions with private companies on the possible use of more deep-sea vessels if the mini-submarine currently searching the ocean floor fails to make a breakthrough, Hishammuddin added.
