By Parisa Hafezi ANKARA (Reuters) - Iran has released a Marshall-Islands flagged container ship and its crew which were seized last month in one of the world's major oil shipping lanes, the Students News Agency ISNA quoted a foreign ministry official as saying on Thursday. The vessel was diverted on April 28 by Iranian patrol boats in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting the United States to send vessels to monitor the situation and to accompany U.S.-flagged vessels passing through the strait. "The Maersk container ship was released and it has left Iranian territorial waters," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham told ISNA. The Maersk incident coincided with heightened tension between regional arch-rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia over the civil war in Yemen, in which they support opposing sides.

France's far-right National Front political party leader Marine Le Pen watches as her father Jean-Marie Le Pen reacts on the podium in ParisBy Ingrid Melander and Gregory Blachier PARIS (Reuters) - By pushing her maverick father out of the far-right party he founded four decades ago, French National Front leader Marine Le Pen is banking on an act of political patricide to ensure he does not end up ruining her bid for power. The feud between Jean-Marie Le Pen and his daughter has few parallels in modern European politics and has been compared to everything from slapstick farce to "King Lear", Shakespeare's tragedy of a father driven to madness after turning his kingdom over to his daughters. "But in the long run, if she manages the crisis well media-wise ... she could win from this break-up." The crisis at the National Front erupted one month ago when Le Pen senior reiterated past comments that the Nazi gas chambers were a mere detail of history, and defended Philippe Petain, the war-time leader who cooperated with Nazi Germany. According to Sylvain Crepon, a political analyst and expert on the National Front, Marine and her party lieutenants "might have been waiting for just such an opportunity".

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake holds a news conference on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Baltimore. The mayor called on U.S. government investigators to look into whether this city's beleaguered police department uses a pattern of excessive force or discriminatory policing. Rawlings-Blake's request came a day after new Attorney General Loretta Lynch visited the city and pledged to improve the police department. (Kim Hairston/The Baltimore Sun via AP) WASHINGTON EXAMINER OUTBALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is winning support from other public officials and praise from legal experts for asking the U.S. Justice Department to investigate her police department for discriminatory patterns or practices.
