File Photo shows former West German Chancellor Schmidt with former British Prime Minister Thatcher in LuxembourgFormer British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is the most influential woman of the past 200 years, according to a survey of Britons published on Tuesday which showed men place a higher value on political influence than women do. Thatcher, who was Britain's first - and, so far, only - female prime minister, led her Conservative party to three election victories, governing from 1979 to 1990, the longest continuous term in office for a British premier in over 150 years. Thatcher's policies on trade unions, privatisation and the Falklands war left Britain bitterly divided over her legacy, and the survey by British pensions and insurance firm Scottish Widows highlighted the depth of her influence in the country.

FILE - In this Sunday, Jan.11, 2015 file photo, crew members of Crest Onyx recovery ship prepare to unload the newly-recovered tail section of crashed AirAsia Flight 8501 at Kumai port in Pangkalan Bun, Central Borneo, Indonesia. Indonesian investigators say a faulty rudder control system and the pilots' response led to the crash of the plane last year that killed all 162 people on board. The National Transportation Safety Committee announced Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, that an analysis of Flight 8501's data recorder showed that the Airbus A320 had problems with its rudder control system while flying between the Indonesian city of Surabaya and Singapore on Dec. 28. (AP Photo/Achmad Ibrahim, File)A rudder control system problem that had occurred 23 times in the previous 12 months coupled with the pilots' response led to last year's crash of an AirAsia plane that killed all 162 people on board, Indonesian investigators said Tuesday.

The Wider Image: Tensions in the Niger DeltaBy Kieran Guilbert DAKAR (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Hundreds of schools in northeast Nigeria have reopened for the first time in a year and a half, though many teachers and pupils are reluctant to return because of persistent violence in the region, the United Nations said on Tuesday. Almost 450 schools have reopened in Borno state since October, more than 18 months after education was halted in the wake of an attack by Boko Haram militants on a boarding school in neighbouring Yobe state in which they killed 59 students. Some schools in Adamawa and Borno states are doubling the number of classes to provide education for people uprooted by the conflict as well as for local children, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
