Speakers in the convention's first hour struggled to carry out business as angry Sanders supporters repeatedly booed and chanted, drawing a reaction from Clinton delegates that created a deafening roar. "We're all Democrats and we need to act like it," U.S. Representative Marcia Fudge, the convention's chairwoman, shouted over the uproar.

Bets that shares of videogame maker Nintendo will fall have quadrupled in the past week following a major rally sparked by the wild popularity of its Pokemon GO smartphone game. Short interest in Nintendo stood at $1.2 billion on Monday and was climbing ahead of the company's first-quarter report on Wednesday, according to financial analytics firm S3. Bets by short sellers against Nintendo had remained low in mid-July while the company's stock surged more than 100 percent over seven sessions.

As polls showed Republican Donald Trump leading the race for the White House, Democrats meeting in Philadelphia to make Clinton the first woman presidential nominee from a major party were in disarray. Sanders' supporters booed as a pastor leading the invocation prayer mentioned Clinton's name, setting the stage for a raucous chorus of cheers and jeers as successive speakers took to the podium.
