Solar Impulse 2 lands in Abu Dhabi to complete its world tour flight on July 26, 2016Solar Impulse 2 on Tuesday completed its historic round-the-world journey, becoming the first plane to circle the globe powered only by the sun to promote renewable energy. Cheers and applause broke out as the plane touched down before dawn in Abu Dhabi after the final leg of its marathon trip which began on March 9 last year. Swiss explorer and project director Bertrand Piccard was in the cockpit during the more than 48-hour flight from Cairo, crossing the Red Sea, the vast Saudi desert and flying over the Gulf.

Police said they killed two hostage-takers in the attack in the Normandy town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, 125 kilometres (77 miles) north of Paris. The motivations for the hostage-taking were not yet clear, but the Paris prosecutor's office said the case had been handed to anti-terrorism judges for investigation.

China did not participate in and has refused to accept the July 12 ruling by the U.N.-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration, in which U.S. ally Manila won an emphatic legal victory. China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi had asked Kerry to lend his support for bilateral talks to restart between Manila and Beijing in a meeting between the two in the Laos capital of Vientiane on Monday.
