Rallies in Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, New Zealand and the Philippines illustrated the broad array of concerns over the impact of climate change, from calls for renewable energy to the plight of Pacific islanders as sea levels rise. Some 3,000 people including religious clergy, students and activists marched through the Philippine capital of Manila demanding curbs on emissions to mute the impact of climate change, which is blamed for a spike in disastrous extreme weather.

(Reuters) - A gunman stormed a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Colorado Springs on Friday and opened fire with a rifle in an attack that left three people dead and nine others injured, authorities said. The dead included one police officer and two civilians, Colorado Springs Police Chief Peter Carey told reporters about an hour after the suspect had been captured. All nine surviving victims - five police officers and four civilians - were listed in good condition at area hospitals, Carney said.

Police fired tear gas at hundreds of demonstrators throwing rocks in Thursday's violence. "In the exchange between rocks being thrown and blasts of tear gas, a police commissioner died," the security ministry said in a statement.
