It is a most sad day in Little Neck and Douglaston because of the closing of the Scobee Grill, located on Little Neck Parkway and Northern Boulevard. The Scobee Grill will be closing November 29. It has been a very important part of the community for many decades.
My wife Eva has been employed there for about 25 years and is greatly saddened, as are the rest of the employees there. The Scobee is a family restaurant where many from the community have come into eat and to talk about what they hold most dear. My wife tells me even when strangers come in they are treated with kindness and respected.
Now as you walk through the door on the left hand side you will find a glass-enclosed cabinet with a collage of pictures of employees, customers and local politicians- and even former CIA Director George Tenet, who once worked there as a busboy.
The Scobee has also helped many religious and civic groups with their fundraisers, such as the Lions Club, St. Anastasia Knights of Columbus, St. Anastasia Parish, Little Neck-Douglaston Parade committee, and too many more to mention.
It is the end of an ear and a great loss to the community at large. It will also put many of the employees out of work before the holiday season.
