Thursday January 1
4:30pm FOX
Rose Bowl: Penn State vs USC
We’re a big fan of tradition here at the Queens Ledger, and there’s nothing more traditional than the granddaddy of them all. USC is always favored, but Penn State puts up so many points that Peyton Manning would be jealous.
Friday January 2
8pm FOX
Sugar Bowl: Utah vs Alabama
The Crimson Tide were national title favorites until losing to Florida, so excuse them if they’re a little cranky. The Utes are once again making the case for non-BCS teams, and a win over the 4^th ranked Tide would complete their undefeated season.
Saturday January 3
2pm MSG
Notre Dame at St. John’s
The Johnnies have lost badly their past few games, and playing the 11^th ranked fighting Irish won’t provide much of a breather. But if you’re going to make a statement, you’ve got to start somewhere, right?
4pm
Queens College vs. Post
Division II basketball usually flies under the radar, but with the Queens College Knights having both the ECC player and rookie of the week in Mike Liander and Edil Lacayo, this might not be a bad match up to watch.
Sunday January 4
1pm
NFL Playoffs: Ravens vs Dolphins
This might be a tough pill for Jets fans to swallow, but with nothing left to root for, there’s always the American right to root against the Dolphins. And well, that’s better than a lot of things in this life.
Monday January 5
8pm FOX
Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State vs Texas
Texas is mad mad mad after being left out of the national title game. And while Ohio State has been victimized in BCS games the past few years, the Bucks’ defense is strong and Freshman QB Terrell Pryor is dynamite. Still, this is a game you watch for the potential train wreck.
Tuesday January 6
6pm MSG
Knicks at Thunder
If you haven’t been paying attention, Mike D’Antoni’s Knicks can really put up the points. New York’s 104.7 is tied for second in the NBA. Against the hapless Thunder, who allow 102 but score only 92 themselves, the Knicks should have the rare chance to put on a show.
