It was revealed recently that the Brooklyn pol is not only getting paid $92,000 a year to represent the good folks of Bushwick and beyond up in Albany, he's also drawing an $88,600 pension annually as well.
The news immediately drew comment from Lincoln Restler, a Lopez critic who is turning the seemingly political patronage job of district leader into a very vocal office. Restler sent out a statement comparing Lopez to Pedro Espada, Jr., the indicted state senator from the Bronx.
Although it's not only Lopez who is double-dipping, assemblymen Jose Rivera of the Bronx and Herman Farrell of Manhattan also filed for retirement checks even though they will both be back in Albany in January.
