Police kill knife-wielding man in Ridgewood

Police shot and killed a knife-wielding man in Ridgewood Wednesday night, after responding to the scene of a dispute gone wrong on Shaler Avenue.

The victim's identity has not been made public.

Responding to a 911 call, cops from the 104th Precinct arrived at 64-49 Shaler Avenue at 11:36 p.m. December 22. They were confronted by the victim, who was sporting a small, wood-handled knife with a three-inch blade.

“The officers discharged their firearms,” in the altercation that followed, according to a police report of the incident.

It did not specify how many police were involved, the number of rounds they discharged, or their reasons for opening fire.

The man, whose identification awaits family notification, was hit several times in the body. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

Several cops were taken to Jamaica Hospital and treated for trauma and minor injuries.
