Dear Editor:

After fifteen years and miles of drunken noodles, Q Bistro, the popular Thai restaurant on Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills, is closing.

Owner Vesna Denic-Gmerek opened the innovative Thai restaurant back in the late 1990′s with former husband Joey Gmerek -who grew up in Forest Hills and managed such bands as The Fixx and Splendor- and his sister Jean Gmerek,, who still owns and manages the place with her former sister-in-law.  “It’s time for a change,” Vesna told us.

Christopher Collett, who is with the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce, said, “Even though they’re not a member of the Chamber of Commerce, I’m sorry to hear they’re closing.  It was a nice restaurant.”

Asked why Q Bistro is not a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jean Gmerek said, “It was purely a financial decision.  We were members and I thought they did a good job –I especially liked their networking parties, and the coupons they gave out for us at the street fair. But when the economy weakened, we had to make some tough decisions.”

Be careful, the place was taken over by a new owner and is named Q Bistro, with a few asian sounding items on the men, its easy to forget that this is no longer Q thai. Easy until you notice the lack of decor, glaring light from kitchen, awful music, slow service, a very agitated looking chef, overcooked food, overheated bread and on and on. Bad ripoff of people unaware that Q Thai is no more. April 2011.
