Nearly 6,000 people ran through the streets of Brooklyn this past Saturday morning in the Brooklyn Half-Marathon.

The 13.1-mile race started in Prospect Park at 7 a.m. and ended on the boardwalk at Coney Island in the shadow of the now-defunct Parachute Jump. Tesafaye Assefa, 27, was the top male runner, finishing with a time of 1:06:09. Caroline Bierbaum, 27, led the female runners, finishing in 1:15:38.

The Brooklyn Half-Marathon is the second of five half-marathons sponsored by the New York Road Runners in the buildup to the New York City Marathon. The Queens Half-Marathon will take place on Saturday, July 30, in and around Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Registration ends on July 26, or until race capacity has been reached.
