Sad day for NYPD

Dear Editor:

NYPD officers Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mata- who were found innocent of rape charges but guilty of official misconduct- have disgraced the image of what a police officer is expected to be and that is to serve and protect the community.

I have known many police officers who did their best to help those of us in trouble. These fine officers put their lives on the line every day to protect all of us in the communities they served. I have also known others who were fine examples of what a police officer is all about and have gone far beyond the call of duty. Moreno and Mata are not in the same league.

They apparently thought they were above the law. I do believe and must commend Police Commissioner Ray Kelly for firing these men right after the verdict. In the end I believe no woman deserves to be abused or assaulted no matter what her physical condition might be. All women must be respected!

Sincerely,

Frederick Bedell Jr.
