This year’s event, known as Gleason’s Gym vs. NYPD’s Fighting Finest, will be held on September 8 at 7 p.m at St. Ann’s Warehouse, 38 Water Street in DUMBO.
Gleason’s is the oldest active boxing gym in the world, according to a statement from the DUMBO Business Improvement District (BID), which runs Fight Night as an annual fundraiser.
The gym will pose 10 of its finest fighters against the NYPD boxing club in USABoxing-Metro-sanctioned matches, which the BID promised would create “tons of action under the lights.”
“We think it’s going to be an exciting matchup [of] local boys versus the boys in blue,” said Alexandria Sica, the BID’s executive director.
In previous years, Fight Night featured local residents as the fighters. However, a representative from the Improvement District said Gleason’s owner Bruce Silverglade worked with the NYPD to create a different take on the event.
“We love working with our local precinct, the 84th, and we’re hoping that they’ll come out as well,” Sica said.
The precinct is “always helping us with community events and helping us address any issues down here,” she said.
To see if Brooklyn fighters are tougher than the NYPD’s fighting finest, tickets can be purchased at the door or at DUMBOnyc.org for $25.
