The inauguration, which took place PS 153, was hosted by Crowley’s sister Bernadette Crowley and attended by a large contingent of city and state officials, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, spiritual leaders, and several members of the sprawling Crowley family.
Elizabeth Crowley is “a good, strong, solid representative,” Senator Schumer said in comments at the ceremony.
Schumer was followed by a host of politicians and community leaders, including Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, who praised Crowley’s dedication to public service.
“Elizabeth Crowley has an understanding of community and problem solving,” Congressman Anthony Weiner told the assembly, adding that the councilwoman has a “fist of steel” when it comes to fighting for her constituency.
After being sworn in by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Councilwoman Crowley delivered an inaugural speech in which she thanked her supporters and highlighted her legislative priorities for the coming year.
These include obtaining a separate zip code for Glendale and working to landmark sections of Ridgewood. Crowley also announced the opening of a new office on Dry Harbor Road on Valentine’s Day.
