Whether it’s pumpkins or apple cider, nothing gets you in the spirit of the season like a fall festival.

This past Saturday, the Friends of the East River State Park and the National Heritage Trust co-sponsored a free Fall Festival at the East River State Park in Williamsburg. Over 100 parents attended the event with their little ones for singing, pumpkin painting and other seasonal activities.

A market manager of Red Jacket Orchards, Thupten Tashi, said he helped sell fruit drinks throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan at festival events as a healthy alternative to soda. Kids could select drinks from the stand for free, while some were also offered at discount prices to adults.

Painting with blue and green colors on their pumpkins, Greenpoint resident Vera Halbfass brought out her two sons, Sebastian, 3, and Emanuel Bombino, 16 mos., to enjoy the event. “It’s a great way to have fun with your family.”

With so many choices, children also had the chance to fish for apples, get their face painted or dance to a sing-a-long band.

“It’s really all about getting the community together,” said Alexandra Broenniman, co-chair of the Friends of the East River State Park. “We love our community.”
