The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition is honoring Michael Schatz and Gerald Walsh this Thursday, November 29, at the Astoria World Manor. Marie Torniali, executive director of the coalition, said they are being honored for their contributions and service to the organization.

Michael Schatz is site manager at the Astoria NDG Plant. His organization was the Platinum Sponsor of CALDC's 30th Annual Independence Celebration in Astoria Park this past summer. “He's been very good to the coalition,” Torniali said, recalling the event. She said that Schatz will be receiving the community leadership award.

Gerald Walsh, president of the Dutch Kills Civic Association, has done a lot of work in the neighborhood, and will be receiving the community spirit award.

“These two individuals have served as part of this organization for a long time,” said Torniali. “And it's time they were recognized.”

The celebration will be held at the Astoria World Manor, 25-22 Astoria Blvd.
