But You Cake takes photo desserts to a whole new level with its professional-quality printing to make the perfect photo on the perfect cupcake, cookie or cake.
Chief Executive Officer Carolyn Sevos Hamilton did not always want to be the head of an edible photo-topping business. In fact, prior to opening You Cake, she was a high school history teacher with a master's degree in education from NYU and a graduate of Oberlin College.
After Hamilton left the education field, she teamed up with partner Jeremy Horn to open a website development and consulting business. This two came up with the idea for You Cake three years ago.
They felt unsatisfied with existing photo cake companies that couldn’t integrate their ideas with modern technology.
“That’s when we thought, ‘Hey, this could be a pretty good business,'” Hamilton said. “The difference from other photo cake bakeries and ours is that we take it up a notch.”
You Cakes are made in Long Island City and personalized for sweet sixteen parties, bar mitzvahs, baby showers and more. According to Hamilton, the desserts are “very one of a kind.”
Because of the extremely personalized details made especially for the customer, people often keep coming back.
“We have a lot of customers that keep coming back for the events throughout their lives,” she explained. “From a wedding to a baby shower, and then after that a birthday.”
But the best part of You Cake? The company's business cards are printed on cookies.
