I would just like to comment briefly about your editorial in the March 14th edition titled "Sensible Concerts at Forest Hills (FH) Tennis Stadium."
I would agree totally with the main point that "the type of music events at the 15,000-seat FH Tennis Stadium might just be the key to the solution for both sides of the debate on holding concerts again at the West Side Tennis Club".
The only time I saw a concert at the stadium was when I attended a Joni Mitchell concert there in 1979. It was a very memorable evening and a capacity audience was on hand. Despite the large crowd, there were no problems before, during or after the concert.
I was very impressed by the surrounding residential neighborhood, and found Forest Hills to be very accessible by public transportation from Manhattan (a very short ride on the LIRR).
Since then, I have attended outdoor summer concerts virtually exclusively at the venue at Jones Beach. I find this latter stadium rather inconvenient by public transportation from Manhattan (a much longer ride on the LIRR to Freeport, followed by a bus ride to the beach).
The Forest Hills Tennis Stadium is a beautiful outdoor arena that is totally underutilized. I really hope that they will someday resume summer concerts at Forest Hills. I hope your paper will continue to champion these efforts.
