Children played in inflatable castles, antique cars on display and newcomers sampling the local businesses were all part of this weekend's Myrtle Avenue Fall Street Festival, which took over the avenue from Fresh Pond Road to Wyckoff Avenue.

“I saw the festival and decided to walk it,” said Joan Coa, who was going to shop at a local store but found herself in the middle of the event. “I’m just checking around to see what they have. I'm sure I will come back next year.”

Many adults were pushing baby carriages or watching their children play on bouncing rides while clowns made balloon animals.

“This is a great place to bring children,” said Lucy Cruz, who was with her four children. “We can’t wait to come back next year.”

The Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District hosted the event.

“We thought the street fair went well,” said executive director Theodore Renz. “We think this an important event to bring people down to the avenue.”

The BID is also looking to expand the fair and add new components.

“We had a number of artists that participated in the street fair this year,” said Renz. “We hope to build upon that, and in the future have an artists' section.”
