Community members joined the Kiwanis Club as they placed their bets on a variety of horse races for a night of friendly wagering and a chance to win a number of gifts donated by local businesses, all in support of the club.
Nancy Intagliata, president of the club, said it's events like this that help keep the club and the community thriving.
“We had a lot of donations by our local merchants,” Intagliata said. “We’re very thankful of all the contributions.”
Linda Dougherty, a club member and principal of Our Lady of Mercy, said the school tries to team up with the club to host a number of fun activities for the community, including a spaghetti dinner and a pancake breakfast.
“When they mentioned it, I said I would help,” Dougherty recalled.
Tom Long, commander of American Legion Post 1424 and club member, said he was there to support the club, which gives back to the community in so many ways.
“Kiwanis, in retrospect, supports the community in a lot of different ways,” Long said. “It’s just fun to be a part of that team.”
