Dear Editor:

How refreshing to see the liberal New York Times run a major front page article ("Rand Paul's Mixed Inheritance - January 26).

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul reminds me of the modern-day conservative movement’s founding father, the late Arizona senator and 1964 Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater.

Goldwater believed that individual economic and civil liberties prosper best when government stays out of the marketplace.

Limited government meant that taxpayers’ dollars would be spent prudently, with the least amount of taxation accompanied by real balanced budgets, no deficits, and actual surpluses.

He would never support the massive deficit spending that has resulted in today’s $17 trillion long-term debt. He was no fan of corporate welfare or spending billions on useless weapons systems supported by Congress, but not requested by the Pentagon.

If alive today, Goldwater would say, “In your heart, you know Rand Paul is right!”

I'll take Rand Paul any day over former senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president in 2016.
