On Feb. 6, the Academy of American Studies High School in Long Island City held celebrated a new computer room and smart boards in every classroom thanks to to $300,000 in funding allocated by Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer.
“I believe in the students and I believe in what’s happening here,” Van Bramer said.
Brendan Smith has been the digital media teacher at the school since 2001. He said the school has needed computers for a long time, and now students that have a passion for photography, movies, editing or graphic design can really flourish.
“We’re really happy to finally give the kids the computers that they deserve,” Smith said.
