Before Maspeth’s John Duddy lost on Saturday, Brooklyn’s Gary Stark Jr., once considered a junior featherweight contender, suffered a third-round TKO at the hands of Antonio Escalante at the UIC Pavillion in Chicago last Friday night.
Stark, who started his career 18-0 with an impressive seven knockouts, has lost three of his last seven fights, including a knockout at the hands on Andres Ledesma in a virtual hometown fight at the Hammerstein Ballroom in May 2007. The losses have promped ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas to question whether Stark’s in-ring boxing career was finished.
