A break in the rain on Saturday was a warm welcome for Red Hook natives attending the annual Red Hook Family Festival, which was a huge hit with kids and adults alike.

The event was organized by the Puppetry Arts Theater and hosted at PS 15 in Red Hook. There were dance and cheerleading performances, games, giveaways, snacks and a flea market.

Kids bounced in a bouncy house and hung out with Spiderman, who came with representatives from Regal Cinemas.

“Once the weather is great, it’s good,” Roxanne Cross, a Regal Cinemas employee, said of the festival.

Regal Cinemas attends the event every year, and this year brought along a costumed Spiderman in honor of the new Amazing Spiderman movie. Kids posed for pictures with the superhero, including Isaiah Llera, a PS 15 student, who was wearing his own Spiderman sweatshirt.

Entrance to the festival was free, while snacks, crafts and t-shirt decorating all cost between $2 and $4. Children competed in hula hoop contests, and the first 100 kids to show up got free goodie bags.

“We had a lot of fun,” Red Hook resident Natasha Flores said. “My daughter performed with her dance group, Amazing Features, and then we stayed and munched a little bit.”
