While it can be hard to rebuild a tarnished reputation, Joe Murphy and his coworkers are hitting the streets in the local Forest Hills community toward that end at AdvantageCare Physicians.

For years, the Queensline Medical Group operated out of the 96-10 Metropolitan Ave. office currently occupied by AdvantageCare, but had a spotty service record and a tendency toward rundown care facilities, according to Murphy.

“At times, this had gotten more run down, and we’re trying to change that,” he said. “It’s been modernized but reputations live on as reputations.”

Part of the issue was that Queensline and other similar healthcare providers under the Emblem Healthcare umbrella around the city were operating autonomously and had little coordination with available resources.

“It used to be that in Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan there were four different groups, so there were some inconsistencies between where you went, and how things were done,” Murphy said. “Emblem thought it would be much better to consolidate everything as one group.”

Murphy signed on as a controller at AdvantageCare last July, and had previously worked with Emblem for seven years before leaving to serve as the CFO for another area provider that focuses on caring for people with physical disabilities.

“They brought some of the management team over from Emblem to the medical groups, and those are people that I knew that I felt very comfortable working with,” Murphy said.

He said that along with updating and cleaning up facilities operated by the medical groups around the city, Emblem and AdvantageCare are working to establish a reputation for positive healthcare experiences.

“One of the big mantras these days is hospitality. You have to go out to deliver not only medical services, but to also go out and deliver positive experiences,” he said. “When you go to the doctor, you’re going to the doctor, but we want to make it as positive as it can be.”
