Thankfully, for our dinner dance this year our evening was beautiful. I forgot to mention that Councilman Eric Ulrich dropped by to congratulate our Honorees and say hello.
Also I hope that you had a great Father’s Day and bought all your gifts for dad on our Woodhaven Business Improvement District’s Jamaica Avenue, your “Everything Avenue” from Dexter Court to 100th Street. The weather was beautiful for his day to enjoy.
It seems that spring is gone, for now we have summer days. This is especially important to our June brides and outdoor graduation ceremonies. For those celebrations, please consider our new catering hall, Woodhaven Manor.
This is a beautiful venue for bridal receptions and parties for every occasion. Woodhaven Manor, with their attentive staff, good food and gracious hosts, Mandeep and his lovely wife Sandy, is truly a welcome addition to our avenue.
I know you have noticed the new stores opening on our WBID, also if a store is closed, it is usually occupied by a new store immediately, for we have a very low vacancy rate. This is because even in this economy, small businesses are coming to our Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue. Be proud Woodhaven
This Saturday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Forest Parkway Plaza off Jamaica Avenue, the Woodhaven Business Improvement District will sponsor the live music of Plastic Soul. There will be no rain date
Franklin K. Lane's AFJROTC was awarded the “Air Force Distinquished Unit Award.” Also, their instructors Lt. Col Ralph Gracia and Master Sgt. Eddie Carr were awarded the “Outstanding Instructor” Awards. The only two in the state. Congratulations to them and also to Principal Alexandra Hernandez.
Congratulations to Father John Francis, for he has been named pastor of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish in Jamaica. The GWDC and the WBID are happy that our Fr. Francis now has his own church, but he will be missed from attending our many events through the years with Fr. Tumino, where we were so fortunate to hear their inspirational statements. There will be a reception for Father Francis at 12:30 p.m. after the 11 a.m. mass on Sunday, June 22, at Monsignor Multz Hall.
Starting Friday, June 27, through Friday, August 29, there will be free lunches served from 1 p.m.until they run out. Anyone 18 or under are eligible for these meals. This Program will be available at our Woodhaven Forest Parkway Library at 85-41 Forest Parkway.
On a sad note, our newly planted Christmas Tree that replaced our 27-year-old tree that was brought down during Sandy, has died. The GWDC had such high hopes for it to last for 27 years, but sadly this will not be. I am awaiting information on why it died, so that this will not happen again with a new Christmas tree that will be planted.
All of our street trees are fully alive and thriving, it is a shame that our special tree did not survive.
Now make sure we continue to fly our American flags above all others, and also wear your flag lapel pins. You can secure free lapel pins from our office at (718) 805-0202. May God bless our leaders, may God bless our armed forces and our disabled veterans, and may God bless our America.
