Borough President Eric Adams recognized the firefighters and emergency workers who rescued three children from a burning Brooklyn apartment back at the inaugural Hero of the Month awards ceremony held at Borough Hall.

Emergency workers from Engine 225, Ladder 107, Battalion 39 and EMS stations 39 and 58 joined Adams at 209 Joralemon St. to accept the award. They included Justin Tallett, 27, who had been on the job for just two months.

Rescue workers got the call at 11 a.m. on July 29 of a fire on the fourth floor of an eight-story building at 1308 Lauren Ave. in East New York. Once there, they realized there were three children stuck inside an apartment on the floor.

“Three beautiful children will continue because of what these folks did,” said FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said. “For our members, there’s nothing more rewarding than saving lives. When those lives are children’s lives, that’s just at the top of the list.”
