Just a few months removed from putting the finishing touches on his record-breaking St. John’s lacrosse career, recent graduate Kieran McArdle was named Major League Lacrosse’s 2014 Cascade Rookie of the Year.

Selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Florida Launch, McArdle wasted little time in bringing his record-breaking ways to the professional level.

He marked his and the Launch’s first MLL season by totaling 49 points on 34 goals and 15 assists, setting league records for points and goals in a single season by a rookie.

“It is an amazing feeling to win this award,” said McArdle. “It was definitely a goal coming into the season, and it’s a huge honor considering all of the rookie who made an impact on their teams this year.”

Behind McArdle in the voting was Rochester attackman and Duke product Jordan Wolf and Lizards’ rookie defenseman Joe Fletcher.

McArdle was twice named the Cascade Rookie of the Week. In Week 4, he earned the honor in his second game with the Launch after posting a six-point performance in his team’s victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

McArdle also collected the honor in Week 12 after tallying a season-high 10 points with five goals and five assists in a victory over Boston.

“I wasn’t aware of the records in points and goals coming into the season, but I knew that in order to be considered for Rookie of the Year I would have to perform a high level and come close to setting records,” said McArdle.
