The NY Shamrocks were knocked out of the Flamhaft Cup in Yonkers on Sunday by EDSL side South Stars, losing 2-1 in tough conditions.

Midfielder Sean Doran opened up the scoring from a free kick after almost 10 minutes when his low drive went through the legs of the South Stars goalkeeper. The home team equalized after 25 minutes when the Rocks defenders failed to clear and the dropping ball was drilled home.

South Stars went 2-1 up against the run of play just before half time, but then had a man sent off for an off the ball incident with 25 minutes left in the game. In spite of some serious pressure, the Rocks were denied by a resolute rear guard and South Stars held on to advance.

The Shamrocks firsts and reserves will travel to NYPD next Sunday morning in Flushing Meadow Field 8 (10 a.m./8 a.m.).

It will be the first team’s final game before the winter break and will give Glen Wrafter’s men a good opportunity of beginning the spring as league leaders. The Over 30s are at home to Manhattan Kickers at Randall’s Island 75 at 8 a.m. and the women’s team will face NYC United B at McCarren Park in Williamsburg at 8 p.m.
