It’s not often that Pol Position gets to cover the world of international politics, so when we heard that Prince Harry would be in town on an official visit, and moreover he would be playing in a charity polo match on Governors Island, we didn’t hesitate in pulling out our best white suit and fedora and hopping on the ferry

You might not know this, but more than one of the members of the Pol Position staff, while attending the Old Greenwich All-Boys Academy for Wayward But Wealthy Youth, has been known to hold their own through six chukkers. That being the case, we thought we would challenge Prince Harry to a friendly pre-match game on the Island’s pitch.

Apparently, this Prince Harry fellow is quite the big deal, and without British Consulate press credentials, the closest we could get to His Royal Highness was the sideboard at the far end of the pitch. We shouted at the prince, offering up friendly challenges, but he refused to take us up on our dares. Pol Position: 1; Royal Crown: 0.

Turns out that Prince Harry’s team won the match, besting the team led by Argentine hunk and “the face of Ralph Lauren fragrance” (as the announcer kept reminding the crowd) Ignacio Figueras. Can anybody say “fix”? We knew we shouldn’t have taken the points and bet against the prince’s squad!
