There is absolutely no logical reason why the city cannot hire more crossing guards to help protect the thousands of schoolchildren who walk to and from school each day. There should not be one major city intersection unsupervised.
Children crossing the street near their school can be injured or even killed by negligent motorists. It is important for the city to find additional funding to immediately hire more crossing guards. The mayor needs to make this a top priority now, instead of worrying about banning horses and carriages from city streets.
